Q: What are the licensing requirements?
A: Each state in the U.S. has different criteria for a teacher to be licensed. IRG will make sure that you meet all the requirements for the state of intended employment.
Q: Do I have to pay any fees?
A: Unlike other occupations where the employer can take care of all the costs, public schools in the U.S. are non-profit entities. Therefore, they do not have the ability or means to pay for all of your expenses. In this case, you must a pay a fee that covers various costs incurred by IRG. Most of these fees can be paid through monthly salary deductions upon your arrival in the U.S.
Q: What is the process I will go through to start working as a teacher in the U.S.?
A: Click here to see the whole process.
Q: How long does it take before I receive an H1-B (working visa) to go to the U.S.?
A: You will normally receive your H1-B visa within two to six weeks after the petition is submitted to BCIS.
Q: Does my family receive visas to go to the U.S.?
A: Your family can receive H-4 visas. The INS defines qualified family members as husband or wife and/or children under 21 at the time the visas are issued. The H-4 visa only allows your family members to reside in the U.S. but not to work here. In order to work in the U.S., they will have to go through another process and file a separate H1-B petition if they qualify.
Q: Does the H-1B working visa allow me to receive a green card?
A: The working visa is one of the preliminary steps by which you can obtain a green card. The H-1B visa only entitles you to work for a certain amount of time in the U.S. If your sponsor should deem you worthy, they have the right to begin a green card sponsorship within as little as two months after you begin working in the U.S. Experienced attorneys working with IRG can handle this matter for you at highly discounted fees.
Q: What are the minimum requirements of the schools in the U.S.?
A: This depends on the school where you will be employed. Each school district has different requirements. At minimum, you must have a Bachelors degree in Education or the discipline/subject you will be teaching in.
Q: Is there an age limit?
A: U.S. law mandates that employers cannot hire or fire candidates based solely on age. Therefore, there is no age limit.
Q: What is the teaching environment in the U.S.?
A: Admittedly, it is very different from what you’ve experienced in your own country. The horror stories that you may have seen in Hollywood movies about students in the U.S. are overblown. Students may not be the same as the ones you encounter in your home country, but there is a pattern of discipline and structure that students must follow. With some exposure and acclimatization, you will find it a rewarding experience to work as a teacher in the U.S.
Q: What kind of contract do I have to sign?
A: Normally you will sign an employment agreement for a certain time period with the school directly and you will sign an agreement with IRG regarding recruitment assistance and fees.
